Across Oceans Arts Projects

Dr. Mavis Himes, psychoanalyst,

Speaking of Lacan Psychoanalytic Group

In the creation of a dance piece, is there necessarily a connection between the idea that inspires the piece and the finished product? What can we learn from the discourse of the artist? Is it the same as that of the analyst? How is the language of dance structured and what is its relationship to the unconscious? Using a video clip of a performance of Rage: My Heart is a Spoon as a backdrop, Maxine Heppner and Mavis Himes will address these and other questions from the perspective of each of their disciplines.
