Susan Lee is one of Toronto’s well-known figures in contemporary
dance. She began working with Maxine as a soloist in "Nine Bronze
Pieces" and has been contributing to Heppner's work every since,
including the ongoing Memory Project research and KISS. Known for her athletic
fluid dancing and powerful stage presence, she has appeared in works by
Holly Small, Kaeja d”Dance, Yvonne Ng, Peter Chin, and Maxine Heppner,
among others, touring in North America, Europe, Mexico and Southeast Asia. Her choreographic interest is the integration of music making and
dance, text and movement, and improvisation in creation and
performance. Most recently she produced and created “Leeward”
Harbourfront Nov 2006 and a solo work commissioned by composer George
Hadsis performed with the Halifax Chamber Ensemble. Susan was on the
board of the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists. She co-produces Series
8:08. She has been integral to Maxine’s work since 2002, bringing her
understanding of Maxine’s process and her own skills in partnering and
group interaction to develop mature treatments of the material.
