ACROSS OCEANS ARTS

overview

Deepening expression and collaboration through the arts for over 25 years

"All arts endeavours are collaborations - the coming together of people with different perspectives, experiences, and training, artists and audience, to find common visions and to create relevant expressions that reflect their creative interchanges. The most fundamental and direct form of human communication is through integrated movement, sound and image.  Unique creations result from dynamic and active exchange between contemporary artists, and between artists and public when delicate themes are approached with unlikely balances of boldness and sensitivity. "

Maxine Heppner, Artistic Director

Across Oceans Arts facilitates arts platforms in Canada and worldwide, with acclaimed performing, visual and literary artists, and develops interactions created specially for specific environments and communities that reach across disciplines, across generations, across abilities, across heritages.   AO's bias is the conviction that all people live first in their bodies, so all forms of expression originate in embodied experience.

In conventional theatres, galleries, studios, fields, forests, city harbours, town squares, huge spaces, private places, the events are produced to delight in the collaboration through the arts between artists, individuals and communities.

Facilitations are ongoing programs and single projects that include live performance, 2-D and 3-D art exhibits, film/video creation, publications, public forums, training, advanced research, production, and community ensemble projects.

AOA is based in Toronto, Canada and producing in Canada and internationally, including participants from across Canada, the Caribbean, China, across the European Union, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South America, USA, Vietnam.
