Born in Pune, the cultural capital of India, Gandhaar started learning Indian Classical music on the Bansuri (Indian Bamboo Flute) at the age of 4, from his father Nitin Amin. He believes it is this almost subconscious learning that happened at an early age, that helped him develop an impeccable ear, which in turn is his biggest strength as a musician and a composer.

Gandhaar started performing with his father at the age of 8. He did numerous classical concerts accompanying his father, around the world. During this time, he got access to and spent quality time with some of the biggest names in the world of Indian classical music. This interaction with living legends helped him understand what path he wanted to take in his life, and what it takes to achieve superlative excellence as a performing musician.

After completing college, Gandhaar decided to dive into the Indian music industry by forming his first band ‘Empty Cafe’ with guitar player Vinay Kaushal. He also started doing recording sessions for film and TV projects, while performing with fusion bands. He has had the privilege to perform alongside stalwarts like Karsh Kale, Ehsaan Noorani, Sivamani, Sanjay Divecha, Louiz Banks, Toufiq Qureshi and many more.

As a composer, Gandhaar has always tried to push boundaries and try things that haven’t been done before. He found his own unique sound of Indian fusion music, combining centuries old traditional Indian melodies with modern electronic music production. He released his first EP, 27 Ears, in 2020. He has since released 3 EPs and a multiple singles, all of which have been well received by young audiences from around the world.

Gandhaar has also made a mark for himself on the international world music scene. He was a performer and co-writer on the debut music album by His Holiness The Dalai Lama, which released in 2020 and was considered for a Grammy nomination. He also had the joy of working at the prestigious Abbey Road Studios in London, UK, on a commissioned project in 2017. His strong roots in the Indian classical tradition combined with his eagerness to explore has helped him carve a niche for himself asa global music composer, producer and performer.

Gandhaar recently moved to Toronto, Canada, and is excited to explore the diverse music scene in this new city, while taking his music to newer audiences in the western world.
